For those that have pre-ordered Modern Warfare 2 digitally, the action kicks off on October 20th. If that wasn’t an exciting enough prospect by itself, Activision has now revealed a slew of rewards that will be unlocked for the multiplayer player, made available by working through the campaign. It’s an added incentive to play the story accompaniment to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a mode that many hardcore, multiplayer-focused gamers tend to avoid.
There are four Operators, an exclusive weapon blueprint, emblems, weapon tokens, calling cards, and more, just waiting to be unlocked. For those that have pre-ordered a physical version of Modern Warfare 2, there’s an unfortunate need to wait until the official, global launch day on October 28th. However, even though early access won’t be unlocked, day-one players can still access this extra content simply for playing the campaign.
Campaign First, Multiplayer Later

It’s a shrewd move by Activision – release Modern Warfare 2 a week early but only the campaign portion of the game, thus ensuring as many players as possible actually give it a go. For years, the Call of Duty campaigns have been overlooked, with many players opting to jump onto the platform and leap straight into the multiplayer offering. Even some of the best Call of Duty players in the world have neglected the in-game campaigns for many years – it’s just the way it is.
This year, with Modern Warfare 2, those playing through the campaign – ideally from end-to-end – can unlock an array of added extras. There’s quite a hefty list on offer, and the further you get, the more content you’ll receive when you finally do decide to access the multiplayer portion of the game. Pre-Order Digitally For The Earliest Access
There’s still time to pre-order Modern Warfare 2 and get early access, but to do so, you must pre-order it digitally. This year, things are moving fast, with the Call of Duty League starting up mere weeks after the launch of the game. If you want to learn the maps ahead of any ranked modes surfacing, you’ll need to get the campaign out of the way before the multiplayer platform has even been unlocked.
With that digital pre-order secured on your platform of choice (this is of course a cross-platform Call of Duty), you simply need to wait until October 20th. This is reportedly the most advanced, intense Call of Duty campaign that has ever been built, so it should be a wild ride.
