Pokémon GO Community Day: Litwick announced for October

Every month, Pokémon GO hosts a Community Day. This is a day designed to get every trainer out and playing the game. For a certain amount of time on one day a month, a Pokémon is featured. This Pokémon will take up 95% of the spawns, giving players a chance to find ones with excellent IVs, get enough candy to evolve and find shinies! Community days generally see an increase in shiny odds from 1/450 to about 1/20.

October’s Pokémon? Litwick! It will be the first time it can be shiny in Niantic’s mobile game. Here’s what you need to know.

Shiny Litwick, Lampent and Chandelure

Pokémon GO Community Day: October 2022

On Sunday, October 15, beginning at 2 pm local time, Litwick will become one of the only Pokémon spawning. This will last until 5 pm local time, giving players three hours to find as many Litwick in the wild.

Niantic also wants players to be able to evolve their Pokémon, giving it a unique move:

“Evolve Lampent (Litwick’s middle evolution) during the event or up to five hours afterward to get a Chandelure that knows the Charged Attack Poltergeist.”

Evolving Litwick on Community Day

Litwick evolves into Lampent at 25 candies. Lampent then evolves into Chandelure with 100 candies and a Unova stone. That means that, if players want to have all three versions (both shiny and normal), they’ll need a total of 300 Litwick candy! This is not the debut for Litwick, however, so many players will already have candy and may have all three non-shiny Pokémon. That will make their day a little easier.

During the event, certain bonuses will be active, too:

3× XP for catching.

2× Candy for catching.

2× chance for Trainers level 31 and up to get XL Candy from catching.

Lure Modules will last for three hours.

Incense will last for three hours.

One additional Special Trade can be made for a maximum of two for the day.

Trades made will require 50% less Stardust.

How to participate in Community Day

The only thing required to participate in a Community Day is activity. Even a player who just downloaded the app can go out and catch the Pokémon with the same odds and spawn rates as everyone else.

It is important to ensure you have enough Pokéballs, as there will be a lot of catching done on that day. Incenses and lures can also be valuable. Since so many candies are required, it may be wise to stock up on Pinap Berries, too.
