A Mini-Set Teaser?

What is a Hearthstone Mini-Set?

Hearthstone introduced Mini-Set in January 2021 with the Darkmoon Races Mini-Set for Madness at the Darkmoon Faire expansion. These Mini-Set bring new and exciting content for Hearthstone players in the form of 35 extra cards.

Usually, the cards included in this Hearthstone Mini-Set are divided the following way:

4 Legendary cards1 Epic card14 Rare cards16 Common cards

Remember that Epic, Rare and Common cards come in pairs. So 35 unique cards in each Mini-Set.

Murder at Castle Nathria Mini-Set announcement and arrival

As mentioned above, every clue indicates that the Murder at Castle Nathria Hearthstone Mini-Set will come next week. Why do I feel so confident with this hypothesis? These are the facts. You will see it’s all about connecting the dots!

1. Heroic Brawliseum

Players say Blizzard is a greedy corporation that is only concerned with emptying your pockets. Well, let’s just agree that they like making money. Here we find our first clue, with the Heroic Brawliseum currently running.

Wild Heroic Brawliseum returns to Hearthstone. What are the rewards that you can get?

Hearthstone brings back the Wild Heroic Brawliseum with rewards of up to 50 packs! Check how it works in this Esports.gg article.

This 1000 Gold per ticket event, kind of drains gold from players. Gold that players could use to buy the upcoming miniset. Before you say this is just my imagination, do you remember when was the last time we had a Heroic Brawliseum? You guessed it, the week before Hearthstone announced the Sunken City expansion Mini-Set. A coincidence?

2. Hearthstone Esports Events

So, what? You may say, a Heroic Brawliseum isn’t proof of anything. Well, hold on there while I present you the second fact, the upcoming Hearthstone Masters Tour. Why is Hearthstone esports relevant? Because it’s a marketing tool. Abar, Hearthstone Esports Product Manager, explained that so many times already.

Hearthstone is a for-profit business. Esports does not have to exist within that business model. We earn our keep by demonstrating our value to the team’s overall business goals as a form of marketing.

— Abar (@Abar_HS) June 29, 2022

What this means is that, with the next Masters Tour starting on October 7th, is just natural to expect some new content before that. Given a 10-day window for players to adjust and refine their line-ups and what do we get? That the next Hearthstone Mini-Set should arrive on September 27th.

3. Hearthstone Mini-Set timings

Not convinced yet, well, coming up next, the most revealing of all the facts presented. Hearthstone patch cycles are no mystery, and while they aren’t a perfect clock, they are reliable. Minisets come with the X.4 Hearthstone patches, which go live approximately 2 months after the expansion launch.

The typical BG/Expansion Content Schedule:

.0 Patch:
Expansion Launch
Small BG Hero Update

.2 Patch (1-Month):
Major Battlegrounds Update

.4 Patch (2 Months):
Expansion Mini-Set
Small BG Hero Update

.6 Patch (3 Months):
Pre-Order for Next Expansion
BG Balance Update/Shakeup

This is not just me saying it. Iksar, former Hearthstone Game Director, was the one who gave this guideline I take to predict the miniset. But just to be sure, here are the dates for the 5 previous mini-sets.

Expansion NameRelease DateMini-SetRelease DateSunken City4/21/2022Throne of the Tides6/1/2022Divided in Alterac Valley12/7/2021Onyxia’s Lair2/15/2022United in Stormwind8/3/2021Deadmines11/2/2021Forged in the Barrens3/30/2021Wailing Caverns6/3/2021Madnes at the Darkmoon Faire11/17/2020Darkmoon Races1/21/2021Expansions and Mini-Set cycles

Out of the 5 minisets Hearthstone released, only one didn’t follow the 2-month rule, the Deadmines Mini-Set for United in Stormwind, but there is an explanation for this. In October 2021, Blizzard released Mercenaries, a new Hearthstone game mode, which pushed the miniset to November that year.

Do you still think this is just a coincidence? Time will prove me right or wrong, but I stick to my gut, and my gut tells me that Hearthstone should be announcing the Murder at Castle Nathria expansion Mini-Set this week. Furthermore, that said Mini-Set should be going live in less than 10 days from now.

Battlegrounds can’t catch a break, now a Tavern Pass survey brought up the controversy, once again. Is Blizzard blaming the messenger?
