A Genshin Impact Anime is on the way

With the upcoming second anniversary of Genshin Impact, fans can’t help but be excited. During the version 3.1 stream, there were many exciting announcements. While most had to do with in-game content or rewards, HoYoverse announced some special projects. The biggest being that a Genshin anime is in the works.

Who’s Making the Genshin Impact anime

The Genshin anime is being made in collaboration with Ufotable. Ufotable is a Japanese animation studio that has been around since the early 2000s. Despite being a top name in the game, they tend to take on fewer projects than many of the other anime studios and are known for their quality.

Here are a few notable anime that Ufotable has put out in the past:

Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade WorksDemon SlayerTales of Zestiria the XFate/ZeroCoyote Ragtime Show

In addition to anime, the studio has also produced openings for several well-known games. This includes Tales of Arise and Code Vein. This is not the same studio that animated the short clip that first showed off Ayato during the Inazuma arc.

When Will The Genshin Anime Debut

The Genshin Anime is likely in early development as only a short teaser was shown during the version 3.1 live stream. The trailer showed several locations in Mondstadt and focused on the level of detail that was going into the work. Some areas like Dragonspine were shown, along with both Aether and Lumine holding hands at the end of the video. Lamp Grass and Crystalfly were also shown to help set the Mondstadt mood further.

There is no planned release date for the anime, nor do we know how long it will be. The anime was announced as a long-term project, though, possibly hinting at several seasons already being agreed upon. This, of course, will likely still depend on the reception of fans to the anime and viewer statistics. As of right now, we also don’t know if the anime will have a dub.

Below, you can watch the trailer, and get a better idea of what the animated version of Mondstadt will look like:

How Many Seasons Will the Genshin Impact Anime Be?

We aren’t quite sure how many more region Genshin Impact will show. Aside from the seven regions of Teyvat, there is also Celestia and fallen kingdoms like Khaenri’ah. To cover the whole story of Genshin Impact, the anime would likely need several seasons. One for each of the regions, especially if they wanted to dive deep into all of the characters. As of right now though, we don’t even know which Traveler we will be following.

If so, it may be hard to recruit all the same voice actors. For now, though, we do know an anime is coming. When, how long, and what languages it will be dubbed in are still a mystery. Keep in mind that Genshin Impact is a Chinese game, so you will likely see the Chinese dub come first.
