Popular as the “Cathedral of Counter-Strike’ IEM Cologne is one of the biggest events in the CS: GO calendar year. The marquee tournament features the best teams from across the world competing not only for a sizable prize pool but also for the glory and prestige of having won this event. The IEM Cologne 2022 features a million dollar prize pool with 24 of the best teams in competition. IEM Cologne 2022 Teams

The 2022 edition of IEM Cologne 24 teams, but not all teams start at the same time. There is a Play-in event which has sixteen teams starting off their Cologne journey. These teams play in a double-elimination bracket which starts off with a best-one-series.

The top eight teams from the play-in stage will make it through to the groups.

Tournament format

There are three stages to this tournament that take place from July 5-15. The tournament will feature a live audience for the playoffs, where the Lanxess Arena will come alive with CS: GO fans. 

Play-In Stage

The play-in matches feature double-elimination bracket but start with best-of-one matches. Subsequent matches, which are mostly elimination or qualification matches, are best-of-three series. 

Sixteen teams take part in the play-in stage, only eight advance to the group stage.

Group Stage

The 16 play-in stage teams are joined by the Directly invited teams in the group stage. There are two groups of eight teams each. The teams play in a double-elimination bracket. The top three 

Play-off stage

The Playoffs stage has six teams – the top three from each of the two groups. The top team in each group advances directly to the semifinal while the next two teams in the groups move to the quarterfinals. 

All matches in the playoffs are best-of-three series with the Grand finals to take place on July 15.
