Elden Ring Has Become One of the Top 10 Best-Selling Premium Games in U.S. History

According to The NPD Group, Elden Ring was not only the best-selling game of June 2022 and the first half of this year, but it has also become one of the top 10 best-selling premium games in terms of dollar sales in U.S. history.

The news was shared by The NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella and, while it wasn’t revealed where it places on that list, he did confirm more impressive facts for FromSoftware’s latest game.

Alongside placing first in dollar sales in four of its first five months on the market, it is also the best-selling game in the past 12 months, even surpassing Call of Duty: Vanguard.

The last time Bandai Namco revealed sales figures for Elden Ring was in May 2022, saying that the game sold 13.4 million copies in its first month on sale.

Piscatella revealed much more about video game sales in June and the first half of the year, including that “PlayStation 5 generated the highest dollar sales amongst video game hardware platforms in both June and the first half of the calendar 2022, while Switch led both time periods in unit sales.”

Overwatch impressed this month by placing 5th overall, marking its first return to the top 20 best-selling titles chart since October 2019. This jump is surely in part linked to the release of the Overwatch 2 Beta.

Final Fantasy VII Remake also impressed by becoming the 9th best-selling game in June 2022 after placing 159th in May. The announcement of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (FF7 Remake Part 2) undoubtedly played a big part in its success. The last time FF7 Remake appeared in the top 20 best-selling games was May 2020.

The release of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak brought the sales of the base game high enough to place 13th, and the Switch launch of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba: The Hinokami Chronicles allowed the title to place 14th.
