CDL Championship Breakdown: Atlanta FaZe vs New York Subliners

As both the opening fixture and one of the most highly anticipated match-ups, the Atlanta FaZe vs New York Subliners series will be one to remember. At the CDL Championship, it all begins with a showdown between two of the most electric teams on the roster right now. For Atlanta FaZe, it’s a journey of redemption, seeking to secure a victory following an entire season of last-minute failures. For the Subliners, it’s the ultimate underdog story, coming up from the bottom of the table to making Champs at the very last moment.

If you’re a Call of Duty betting fan, you should be keeping a close eye on this fast-approaching series. While it won’t be the final chance for either team, it’ll ultimately send one side down into the lower bracket, while the other pushes on to fight against either the Royal Ravens or Seattle Surge. There’s $1.2 million up for grabs for the winner of COD Champs, and there are high expectations for both of these teams.

Atlanta FaZe vs New York Subliners

If you were to look back several weeks, you’d say that this series is in the bag for Atlanta FaZe. The New York Subliners spent the majority of the 2022 Call of Duty League season at the bottom of the table. It seemed that nothing the NYSL squad could do could bring them results, save for securing the top spot at the CDL Pro-Am Classic tournament. However, following a break-neck run through the Major IV qualifiers and a second-place finish at Major IV itself, the Subliners are well and truly in the running for Champs.

On the Atlanta side, it has been a remarkable year – top of the table by a mile but no victories at any of the four Major tournaments. In recent years, Atlanta FaZe has been an incredible side, effortlessly dominating the competition and securing big win after big win, including securing the top prize at the 2021 CDL Championship tournament. However, something of a blocker has been present in 2022, preventing FaZe from winning any big bucks prizes, often forcing the team to finish a Major in second place.

At the Major IV event, one of the best Call of Duty tournaments we’ve seen in years, FaZe suffered back-to-back losses at the hands of the LA Thieves. While there’s a break between events, Atlanta FaZe will be entering Champs on a sour note, eager to win but with very little momentum behind them. Conversely, the Subliners will come screaming into the event with white-hot energy, and that could be enough to carry them through to the Grand Final.

The Might of Two Teams

Both of these teams are strong, and they feature some of the greatest Call of Duty players of all time. It took a while for the relatively new Subliners squad to find their feet this season, but when they finally clicked, it was utterly magical. If the combined powers of Kismet, HyDra, Crimsix, and PaulEhx remains consistent and close-knit, we could see a remarkable streak through Champs.

For Atlanta, there were whisperings that there were some internal beefs that were preventing progress among the team. However, these rumours were never confirmed, but they would go some way in explaining FaZe’s inability to secure a Major win in 2022. Regardless, Atlanta has the ability to secure the trophy for the second year in a row, provided the combination of AbeZy, Simp, Arcitys, and Cellium can keep cool heads and strong thumbs.

At present, Atlanta FaZe is the favourite to win (3.20) while the Subliners sit a little further down the esports bookmakers’ rankings (4.25).
